After School Art is offered to the students attending Westside Montessori (on campus) every Monday from 230-330p. Breaks are offered as needed.

After School Art is for children ages 4 and 5 seeking an in-depth art experience revolving around art history and various forms of art. Each class begins with 15-20 minutes of art history on a different artist each week. We then provide the children with step-by-step instructions to create their own masterpieces based on that artist's medium and/or technique. Children will be working on a different medium each week. This link is to provide you the option to reserve each month we are in session for the 2023-2024 school year.

Acrylic Painting on Canvas

Acrylic painting on canvas will explore the primary colors, blending to create secondary and tertiary colors, drawing with a paintbrush, and creating dimensions with colors.

Sketching Basics

We will uncover the basics of sketch creating two drawings reflecting highlights and shading. The first part of the class will consist of four warm-up sketches inspiring the children to explore their creative juices. The second drawing will be wrapped around the artist we learn this week. We will focus on highlighting and shading each drawing with pencils and charcoal.

Pastels

We will teach the essentials of how to color with Pastels. This includes color blocking, layering, and using highlights to blend.

Watercolor Basics

We will explore the color wash technique, and practice layering light, medium, and dark colors to create dimension.

Paper Mache Sculpture Making Part 1

In this fun class, we show children how to build a sculpture with household products to create dimensions. Design and layering are a part of this session.

Paper Mache Sculpture Making Part 2

In this second edition of our sculpture building class, we show children how to paint their sculptures in detail or in abstract form.

Exploring Anime

We will review the history of anime along with the characteristics of people and animals drawn in this style. Participants will be required to create a drawing reflecting these elements, highlights, and shading. We will use pencil colors and pastels to color the creations.

Air Dry Clay

Let's sculpt together with Air-Dry Clay. This two party class with show the children the pinch pot technique with air dry clay. In the second part of this class, (clay has dried) we will show the children how to paint their sculptures.

Cost: $60 Supply Fee (Per Semester) plus $100 Monthly Per Student

The monthly fee is due by the 1st of each month Failure to make payment by this date means your child will not be picked up for art class.

Please pack snacks and beverages as this is not included in our price! Art supplies and instructions will be provided to your child.
